52 Weeks

Week 52 of Take 52

Well, this is it; the Take 52 project is complete! Not the best shot of my Take 52 but it was something I always wanted to take pictures of.

It’s been an interesting year collecting these pictures. Some were happy accidents while others I obsessed over but the main thing is that I did get better and I have a great archive of the past 52 weeks in pictures.

Thanks to Len and Jim for the invitation to the Take 52 group. Even though you guys bailed, it made me a better photographer.

Lemonade Mosaic

Week 51 of Take 52

For the second time in three weeks, I’ve set out to take some pictures in sketchy neighbourhoods only to get home and find that at some point I’ve set the damn camera to shoot at 640 x 480.

For a brief moment, I had the rage but it occurred to me that I could take nine pictures and make one of the correct size. I guess it works but it’s still frustrating.

P.S. Managing photos with Aperture is awesome but the built in uploading to Flickr part sucks…

Apache

Main & 20th

I guess my interest in old stuff can be chalked up to me getting ‘old’. I find old pictures of Vancouver and recall what used to be at some corner and just shake my head at the gentrification taking over this once lovely place. Again, old…

I’ve noticed that I’m quite taken with old vehicles these days and find it hard not to snap a picture when I see one parked on the street. It’s something that never interested me before but now if I see anything from the 70′s that’s in good shape, I’m taking a picture. Hell, a good dent is just character; there’s almost never any rust. Maybe it’s my way of keeping an archive to look back on in a few years.

Sunday, I found myself snapping pics of one of the few remainin Peep Show places on Granville street after noticing that another one had been boarded up. Not that Granville would be better off with a new 25c Peep Show place but you know their days are numbered. I figured I’d capture one while it was still operating.

Some day I’ll look at the picture and recall when there wasn’t a soulless, steel and glass shoe store or coffee house on that corner.
