In Need of a Murse

Week 7 of Take 52

Saturday morning we were off to play paintball with some friends. It was a good day for it and we were both looking forward to playing. It was pretty busy but we were told the wait would be “between 20 minutes and an hour…” We sat there for almost two hours waiting to got into the game and there wasn’t much sign that it was going to happen anytime soon.

The point of this is that I decided against bringing my camera figuring I would get it muddy, covered in paint and probably broken. Plus, trying to take pictures while not getting shot is probably not a recipe for sucess.

After sitting for ages waiting to get in the game, we figured that enough was enough. We bailed and went to Steveston to have a look around.

We had a really good time exploring around there a little and I spent a good deal of time thinking about all the cool shots I’d be getting if only I had my camera. What all this rambling means is that I didn’t get any pictures taken this week. Next time, I suppose…

Meat and Blood

Meat and Blood

Fun weekend. Our refrigerator decided to stop refrigerating. We were making brunch on Sunday and noticed that the bacon didn’t really need much in the way of defrosting. It was limp right out of the freezer. “What the hell? This thing never stops running, how can the meat be thawed in the freezer?”

We got the manual and I was in there fiddling with the knob to no effect. Then in the evening it just stopped. I was able to buy a bag of ice and Mihwa took all the meat to Jesse’s for emergency freezing. At least it had been a few weeks since the last Costco run…

Today, a strange little Asian guy came to have a look. He took everything apart and spread the parts all around the kitchen. “You have ice build up. No air flow in the freezer…” Alright then. 45 minutes later he was done. “I didn’t put your food back.”

Now for some housekeeping…

  • Neil, Happy Birthday. Sorry about the Meat and Blood
  • I seem to have accidentlied my database; at least it wasn’t the whole thing… As such, I don’t get an email about new comments or comments needing moderation. Of course this isn’t much of a problem, I’m just saying in case that chick wants to get a hold of me…
  • We saw Terminator this weekend. It was pretty good. There were three cheesy parts. Overall 7 out of 10
  • The Snuggie is a robe you wear backwards. Figure it out…

Opening the Windows Vista box

A warning sign that you might be in for a bad user experience. Opening the Windows Vista box

It appears that my del.icio.us posts might come to a screeching halt now that Microsoft has made a bid to buy Yahoo!

I thought it was bad when Yahoo! bought Flickr and then del.icio.us but to their credit, Yahoo! let my two favorite sites carry on, mostly as they were. I can only imagine what a nutcase like Balmer would do once he gets his sweaty hands on them.

Time will tell but history tells us that they will cock this up much as they have done past acquisitions. Microsoft is not a customer oriented company, they’re an enterprise company. They have a terrible record when it comes to customer service, customer privacy, and customer choice.

It’s not that I’m worried that the world is coming to an end, I just don’t like the idea.

A Draconian Penalty

September 13th, 2007

FIA Statement

An extraordinary meeting of the World Motor Sport Council was held in Paris on 13 September, 2007. The following decision was taken:

“The WMSC has stripped Vodafone McLaren Mercedes of all constructor points in the 2007 FIA [tag]Formula One[/tag] World Championship and the team can score no points for the remainder of the season.* “Furthermore, the team will pay a fine equal to [tag]$100m[/tag], less the FOM income lost as a result of the points deduction.

“However, due to the exceptional circumstances in which the FIA gave the team’s drivers an immunity in return for providing evidence, there is no penalty in regard to drivers’ points.**

“The WMSC will receive a full technical report on the 2008 McLaren car and will take a decision at its December 2007 meeting as to what sanction, if any, will be imposed on the team for the 2008 season.”

The full reasons for this decision will be issued on 14th September 2007.

*Points gained by other teams so far this season will not be affected.

**No McLaren representative will be allowed on the podium should a McLaren driver win in any of the remaining races of the 2007 season.

The FIA is out of control, leveling a $100 million fine again [tag]McLaren Mercedes[/tag] because one of their engineers was in possession of [tag]Ferrari[/tag] technical documents. If this isn’t evidence that Ferrari can do no wrong in F1, I don’t know what is… Why has Ferrari not been brought before the council for allowing the sport to be brought in disrepute? It was their engineer who started this whole mess in the first place.

Ron Dennis, who has never shot from the hip in his life, had this to say…

Ron Dennis is about the only public figure that I would be giddy to meet. He values integrity and honour above everything else and lives to race much like Patrick Head and Sir Frank down at Williams. The penalty will sting but money is never an issue at McLaren.

I’m sure a McLaren appeal with be forthcoming. I just hope it doesn’t get the team booted out of the 2008 championship, whish is a very real possability. Look up draconian in a dictionary and you’ll see the FIA headquarters…
