The BC Day long weekend is always good fun downtown. People from all over Metro Vancouver come here and leave their shit all over the beaches and streets during the fireworks and Pride Parade.
I was pretty disappointed with the Pride Parade this year. For reasons unknown, the organizers erected 8 foot high fencing everywhere making a decent picture pretty difficult. Perhaps there have been problems in previous years with balloon and streamer theft from the floats.
I didn’t spend much time there and only took a few dozen pictures. Compared to last year where we spent a few hours and I snapped a few hundred shots… The best part about Pride, apart from the generous exposure of boobs, is that everyone is smiling. While I don’t really enjoy taking pictures of the other humans, if I’m going to, a smile goes a long way.
The rest of the shots will make their way up to Flickr shortly…

I saw some pictures of that fence on the georgia straight today, and wondered about it. I was along Beach avenue, and there was no issue there. I brought a plastic stool with me to get above the layers of heads around me, and got about 800 shots.
I was disappointed with the gap between some groups. It was so bad, that a couple of times peoples believed that it was over and started leaving.
But as always as you said, it is nice to see people smiling.
