I’ve been contacted by a Nigerian

As you know, I’m attempting to sell my old PC after buying a new one. Can I just say that the picture quality is out of this world? Recorded TV is stunning and live TV is at least equal to just using the TV signal but I digress…

So I placed an ad on Craigslist last night. Shortly after that, this email appears in my inbox:

Hello Seller
i saw your item on site which am intrested on in it kindly get back to me with ditail of its condition and why you want to sell it with last price you are willing to sell it for me…..
thanks….

Ok, seems normal enough. I respond and get this back in the morning:

My first instinct was to write back and tell him to bugger off. Instead I got the idea to waste his time. Ah, yes; a project! Lets have a look at the address he sent shall we…

It’s the shopping mall in the lower left… :) These guys aren’t too bright. What fun! If you have any suggestions for time wasting techniques, please feel free…

So anyway, I’m hoping that this will provide some blog fodder in the coming days. Stay tuned for part 2…

Schmap Vancouver Photo Inclusion

The Schmap folks are still using my picture of the Art Gallery. Nice to be loved…

A quick note to let you know that we’ve just released the third edition of our Schmap Vancouver Guide, which by popular demand can now be browsed online (as well as downloaded for use offline).

One of your photos has been included in this third edition.

(Beats coming up with a real post…)

Super Happy Best Friends

a6030n_thumb.jpg This is my our new media box! Woohoo! I’ve noticed that HP machines have been on sale everywhere lately and after seeing the quality of Mom’s HP laptop, I figured what the hell. The price was more than right at $650…

[geek] It’s a 64bit, Dual core, AMD 4800+ (!!), 320GB drive and 2 GB’s of RAM. Damn, it’s a nice machine! Sadly, it came with Vista on it and surprisingly, it still has Vista on it. It’s to be a media appliance so I’m trying not to think about it.

I carried it home on Saturday, tweaking my neck in the process and losing a package of cigarettes along the way. Not one to let pain and nicotine deprivation get in my way, I got to work setting it up. No less than 7 times I found myself cursing Bill Gates and wondering aloud where my Ubuntu disk was. In any event, I got it set up and Media Center is super slick. *Click, click, click* Done. It doesn’t have all the features of MythTV but it’s close. Set up was a lot less work if nothing else.

Sunday, I got down to connecting it to the TV. Again, more cursing and searching for my Ubuntu disk. In the end I gave up on Composite and ran out to get an s-video cable. Ah, much better :) [/geek]

So, I we now have a P4 2.6GHz for sale along with one computer desk :) Any takers?
