I got my beloved PowerBook back after the drive died on me and I have embarked on a back up program that is ridiculously anal in scope. I still ended up losing some files but most have been recovered. When I say recovered you should read that as MiHwa emailing me a few hundred megs of photos and somehow getting back into our wedding consultants FTP server and re-downloading everything,

I used a utility called iPod Photo Reader to extract the pictures from my iPod. The downside of this is that they are limited to a smaller resolution and in a PICT format. At least I have them…

I lost some music as well after getting so focused on the pictures that I forgot I had music which I needed to get off the iPod. Overall it’s not too bad but frustrating in the end. The good news is that some of the odd behaviour I had been seen in the past months is gone. As for SMART monitoring, forget it; it’s a waste of cycles.
