Time Machine

Well, I’ve been giving thought to what the hell I’m doing with my life and I haven’t come up with much… Actually, I haven’t been thinking that but it seemed like a good way to start the post. With that in mind I thought I’d have a look back through the vast sevenapril archives to see what was happening in past years on this day.

March 27th, 2007 – writing a post about what the hell I’m doing with my life. Fairly predictable…

March 27th, 2006 – a rant of sorts on [tag]Web 2.0[/tag] which resulted in the [tag]30 Boxes[/tag] founder actually commenting about my post. Kinda cool, I suppose…

March 27th, 2005 – hey! I was in Tokyo for the first time! I survived the flight from Korea and bus into Tokyo with the worst head cold ever. Good times. This was only weeks before I started at [tag]Atimi[/tag]. I can’t believe that was two years ago. Hmmm…

March 28th, 2005 – I posted on the 28th, blowing the whole freakin’ streak I was on. I was back in Hooterville and apparently, somewhat dismayed at being rejected after a bad interview. Frankly, that could have been anytime since 2000. Probably a month on from my first visit to Korea. That was a cool trip.

March 28th, 2003 – Good grief. I was going on about how I had just pulled my longest day yet at the Company That Sucked yet I was so happy to be there. I use the past tense as there’s a good chance they don’t suck anymore and after being outta work for nine months, I was pretty happy to be there. That wouldn’t last…

March 28th, 2002 – No idea as the first blog post wouldn’t come until September. As I recall I was working crazy, stupid hours at [tag]Infowave[/tag] and waiting for the other shoe to drop. I believe it dropped in June…

March 28th, 2001 – Again, no idea but I had just started at Infowave, not having the slightest idea of the impact it would have on my life. All for the best too…

March 28th, 2000 – I know I was in school and still in the shop full time too. My final push after a near mental break down as grad was only two months away. I didn’t go to the graduation ceremony and told them to mail my diploma. I guess it was a means to an end…

So there you have it. A day in the life for the past 7 years or so. Seems like yesterday…

No one is reading

There are a few reasons which spring to mind: (a) I’ve moved to .com and haven’t really said anything on .ca and (b) the content is less than compelling. I’ll leave it for you to sort out which is applicable to your situation.

So I hooked up with Biff for a coffee as we are prone to do on a Sunday afternoon. We’re sitting there, drinking coffee and smoking when this guy walks by and is looking at me. My first thought was to get up and break his nose because that’s what people do when you look at them in Vancouver. It was only the fact that he was carrying a baby and sorta looked familiar that kept me in my seat. Meanwhile Biff is blathering on about something when said dude and a woman walk up to us.

Holy… it’s the Dayments! How cool! They were with some friends from Seattle but we had a nice chat with them and got caught up, in a manner of speaking. I have to say, Ever is the cutest little girl…

I’ve come across a couple of sites that are something that this site isn’t; unique and interesting. The first one is straight forward: [tag]bestofyoutube.com[/tag] This website was created during the summer of 2006 to make it easier for people around the world to view the most popular and best clips of YouTube. Pretty cool and they offer a video podcast. Nice.

The second one is harder to define: [tag]Justin.tv[/tag] Dude has affixed a camera to his head and wears it 24/7. Streaming. “Justin wears the camera 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Even in the bathroom. Even on a date.” Somehow I don’t think he needs to worry about the date thing…

Parting thought – The only way you are getting some of my change is if your sign reads:

“Entire family killed by ninjas — need money for karate lessons”

danger will robinson

Gotta love Biff and his concern for my mental health…

Skitzo II

My whiteheads are HUGE. You’d wanna pop them. The thing I love about my skin purging is that they happen overnight, there is no festering beneath the skin. It’s not pleasant to look at though.

There was one that went off rather loudly while I was on the train and I’d imagine I must have looked rather sheepishly embarrassed. I am feel like I’m back in the 80′s being filed under the “women’s music” section. It’s not as bad as showing up as a sexy devil to work that first year but my “performance” was definitely out there.

There’s something about long hair that makes me feel girlie. Yesterday at dance class my instructor told me that I have excellent posture and that he was very impressed with how far I’ve come in just 3 weeks (it’s been 4 but who’s counting). He also congratulated me on finally growing an ass, which is great because my disadvantage in this style is that I just don’t have enough junk to really shake around.

I do tarot card readings here and there to see if I can gain insight. I know my center of balance but it’s all really vague, like the outcome will be “the magician” which means it’s up to me to create my reality. I bow to broccoli, and sharks, and the duckbilled platypus.

“I make the kind of foot-tapping, heart stonking, trippy thoughts that melds your brain in to a big mush of unbridled, beardy love. Bruised bones are a small, small price to pay for thoughts as downright sublime as this.”

Hardly Fair

Sorry about the other day; that was hardly fair. But what can I do? When she wants to talk, we talk. I mean, if she were here now, I wouldn’t even be allowed to be on the computer.

Ok, that’s enough of that. We’re no longer talking about the last post. Moving on… How about another fascinating post on my back up program that is ridiculously anal in scope? Excellent!

I paid for SuperDuper!. I had been using the free version before but that meant I was doing a full backup each time. Figure on over two hours for that.

Now with the paid version I can do an incremental backup, which averages about 15 minutes depending on several factors such as how much pr0n Biff might have sent me. I’m also eying up a 300GB SATA drive and enclosure in preparation for Leopard and Time Machine. One can never be too safe nor have too many geek toys littering ones apartment.

The way I see it, my futures involves purchasing sweaters and sensible shoes much more than geeky toys, so I need to get my ducks in a row before she gets here. I’m of the opinion that a case can be made for needing terabytes of redundant storage enclosed in shiny cases with buttons and blinking lights. Multiple routers, protected network segments and yes, a server which backs up the back ups… “Dammit, I’m trying to preserve our memories here…”

Sorry about that. I didn’t mean to go off like that. Maybe I should go for a walk or something. I wonder how late Macstation is open…
