So my motherboard died a couple of days ago. Of course it decided to give up while I was in the midst of working which is always convenient.
This was on my PC, not my PowerBook so there was no need to freak out too much. Actually, a dead PB would be kinda cool as I’d likely end up with a PowerMac due to my Apple Care coverage.
Having grown tired of Ubuntu and it’s failure to use my remote, I decided it was time to try something new. I found MythDora (Fedora Core 5 and MythTV) and decided it looked good. I was installing it and got some errors. I suspected that I might have burned a bad DVD but soon I couldn’t boot the damn thing at all; wouldn’t even POST. So I started to unplug and remove stuff and nothing… That can only mean one thing; a dead motherboard.
Dammit, I really don’t want to put any cash into this thing as I only use it for TV. On the other hand, it’s no good the way it is. I managed to find a board that would take my CPU and came home to put it together. It all went pretty well given that I hadn’t swapped a motherboard in a while and soon enough I was trying the install again.
20 minutes later, the install was all done and the configuration began. 15 minutes after that, I was ready to give it a try. I have to say, MythDora is the sweetest implementation of MythTV I’ve ever seen. Everything just worked, including the remote and the features are amazing. I still need to get it to see my second drive but other than that, it’s all good.
If you’ll excuse me, I need to go play and watch some TV…

Um. Merry Christmas?
oh no you don’t; you’re not gonna provoke me into writing another bleeding heart entry to make you feel better you Sara McLachlan loving pansy.
Too bad you and Rach aren’t getting the real Canadian winter but then again, it doesn’t impact my life one way or the other.
BTW, you mis-typed your URL in your comment.
Ok, I’m done.
My, rather pissy, aren’t we?
Congratulations… if you ever need help with that second drive… you know where to find me…
Thanks Danno! I found the OS has a much better chance of seeing the drive when said drive actually has power going to it.
