I woke up this morning with a bit of a headache. Normally this would annoy me but then I realized that not everyone has the oppourtunity to drain a quart of Wild Turkey before bed every night. Glory be, I am thankful.
The air was crisp as I left my plush, well-lit apartment. The fresh snow was crunchy under my inadequate footwear but I was optimistic that I wouldn’t slip on the ice and injure myself. I felt bad to think of all the precious snowflakes that I was so carelessly crushing under my feet. Each one an individual creation of nature, each one unique never to be created again. Each footstep crushed my soul.
Along my walk I stopped to look at a little bush that was laden with snow. My heart ached to think of this defenseless bush, unable to remove the crushing load of snow from it’s branches. I spent a few moments trying to decide if I should clear the snow… “but what if I harm the little snowflakes?”
I took off my scarf and gently brushed the delicate snowflakes from each of the frozen, fleshy leaves. 20 minutes later the job was complete. I was so full of joy that tiny frozen tears ran down my face. Glory be, I am thankful.
I greeted my fellow commuters and we exchanged tidings and good wishes, on this, a fine Monday morning. Glory be, we were all thankful. Thankful to just be alive and breathe the fresh air. I arrived at my place of work and greeted everyone warmly, I inquired as to the adequacy of their weekends.
Warm laughs were shared as my fellow workers shared stories of their families and volunteer work in the community. Glory be, I am thankful to be surrounded by such good people. Yes today was a good day. So was yesterday and so, I am sure, will be tomorrow. Glory be, I am thankful.
Happy, pappy?
I have, at last count, 4 posts in various stages of completion. I think this might be the start of my personal blogging death spiral.
You know, this water situation is really starting to suck. The water that I boiled last Thursday had so much silt in it that it left mud in the sink when I poured it out. Actual mud. I was drinking that water all day at work the day before…
Since then, I’ve given up boiling water and started buying it. Me. The guy who looks down on people who buy water. Anyway, despite the pain of finding water, carrying it home and spending all that cash, I guess it’s all a bit of an eye opener. I used to keep water just for situations such as this. Then I moved… In any event, I’m sure this all comes off as pretty lame to people in other parts of the world. “You poor, fat westerner; better go buy a new TV to make yourself feel better”
It’s been snowing all weekend and I guess I should comment on it. Not like it doesn’t snow here every year but for some reason everyone acts like this is ‘crazy’… Granted, it’s unusual that it happened this early of course but come on. Not much to report downtown as far as I can tell but the ‘burbs are getting hammered. Serves them right…
Naturally, a snowfall warning means nothing to all the people who get in their SUV’s and head out for a day of shopping. Heaven forbid you forgo a day of shopping… Hence there are tons of accidents involving people who have little to no idea of how to drive on a sunny July afternoon, let alone now.
Hmmm… what’s it been, 2 years since I owned a car? Best thing I ever did. Odd that water is more than gas though…
Wow, 2 entries in a week; I’m on fire! So I was off to Victory Square for the Remembrance Day service on Saturday. It think it’s important to remember the sacrifices that were made so that we can devote our time to the latest game system releases and celebrity bullshit. It’s also nice as for those few hours, regular humans take back that area of Vancouver. You can wander freely and feel safe. Well, sort of safe; it’s relative of course. You’ll still get asked for change, smokes and bus passes but that happens everywhere…
I was taking some pics of the crowds and decided to skoot down this alley that I avoided on my last trip down there. It was too populated with sketchy folks so I decided against going down there but it was pretty empty this time.
As I’m crossing the street with my camera in my hand, a ’street person’ walks through my field of vision and snarls “take a fuckin’ picture, it’ll last longer!” OK. *snap* Too bad it was totally blurry or I’d post it. I wander down the alley taking a few shots and then walk back up the Hastings where another ‘local’ starts yelling at me to take pics of “all these buildings and the absentee landlords” What do you think I’m doing?
Today, I was asked twice, if I wanted to buy drugs. Once on Granville during my Spanky break and then in front of the Art Gallery on my way home. I recognize the Granville guy and I just shook my head and said “no thanks man…” I followed that up by ignoring his pleas for change as I had my ear buds in and that gives my license to ignore select, other humans. The art gallery guy got a snarky “do I look 16?” response for his trouble. I never have fire extinguisher handy when I need one…
In lighter news, I got an email today from a Webzine (or something) asking if they could use my Remembrance Day pictures for an article. “Um, sure. Thanks for asking…”
In July, a local city guide asked if they could use one of my Art Gallery shots in their guide. I haven’t seen it yet as they didn’t have a Mac version of the guide.
It’s all sort of flattering given that my camera is kinda crappy and I have little to no idea of what I’m doing.
Very good. See you in December…
