Back to 30Boxes

The guys at [tag]30Boxes[/tag] said they had an answer to [tag]Google[/tag]‘s calendar and it looks like they were right. I have to admit that I have started to use Google more lately. Mostly due to the clean interface and the link sitting there in [tag]Gmail[/tag].

However, now that 30Boxes has released [tag]Webtop[/tag], I’m back on board. Finally a really cool online desktop to go along with the calendar. “Hey Narendra, now how about some calendar view options?” That would be cool.

Router Reboot

I finally took the plunge today and installed some alternative [tag]firmware[/tag] on my [tag]router[/tag]. [tag]Linksys[/tag] is well known for it hackability and it’s something that I’ve been meaning to get around to for a while now.

The upgrade was fairly painless, though I did find I had to close the browser after re-setting it. That key instruction was missing and I was sure I had turned my router into a brick before I figured it out.

The feature list is really cool, though all I’ve done is to boost my [tag]wireless[/tag] signal strength. So far I haven’t noticed a jump but I was kinda conservative in my setting. The firmware has a huge feature set and I’d say that I understand about 5% of it.

Of course that’s not really the point, is it?

Dim Sum Sunday

Went to the Pink Pearl for [tag]Dim Sum[/tag] today. It was the first time in a long time for me. Since the Shnewt’s moved ‘away’, I haven’t been out for Dim Sum at all. Can’t say I really missed it. It’s ok but probably wouldn’t be my first choice if anyone cared to ask my opinion. Just going with the heard…

Given that I had lots of time I decided to walk and was a good one. Denman street to Clark drive… prolly ’bout 5 or 6 km’s given that my office is just over 2 kms away. As long as you stay on Pender, you’ll miss the worst of the [tag]freak show[/tag], though I did see one drug deal go down. Lotsa cops too though sadly I didn’t witness them cracking any skulls. Good times…

It was great seeing everyone again. Neal, Ardie, Chrissie, Brian, Bryan and Max; been a while since I’ve seen any of them. The food was good, though for some reason the staff seemed to be ignoring us. It’s not like we were the only white folks in the place so maybe it was just my perception.

After we finished eating, I spent the afternoon aimlessly wandering around [tag]Chinatown[/tag]. It’s pretty cool though it does smell like a barnyard in places which was odd. I saw some really interesting stuff and nearly spent some money until I realized that I have a tiny apartment and that I really don’t need anything.

It never fails to amaze me that [tag]Main and Hastings[/tag] is the absolute asshole of Canada and only a block away at Main and Pender, it’s relatively normal. So I finally made my way home, picking up an over-priced coffee along the way. Apart from a few showers, it was a decent day.

Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?

The winner of the most ill conceived [tag]Flickr[/tag] username has been awarded… Paid for Pro account to boot. That’s a shame…

In other news, this handy reference manual will provide important troubleshooting tips regarding relationships to all geeks. I’ve found it to be most helpful and I have made a note of it in my [tag]Hipster PDA[/tag] as well as archiving it on [tag]del.icio.us[/tag]. One can’t be too careful after all…

Ugh, I’ve been trying to sell my [tag]iPod[/tag] on [tag]Craigslist[/tag] and I tell you, people really piss me off. Actually people were pissing me off long before this but now I’m even more aggravated. I listed it a wee bit high as everyone wants to wheel and deal. Fine, I’m up for that; it’s part of the game. Several people contacted me and all of them wanted it and not one ever showed up or contacted me again.

What the hell? If you want to ask questions and stuff, great but don’t tell me that you’ll be over the next day to buy it and then fall off the face of the earth. *wags finger* Meh, whatever… I think I’ll pull the ad down and re-list it in a few days.

Of course I have a good reason for selling a perfectly good iPod. I don’t need it anymore. No, I haven’t sold my ears for medical research, I have a new friend… My justification, skewed as it is, is that I use it nine hours a day and why the hell shouldn’t I?

God, I hope I never have to act like an adult…
