Stuff I’ve Learned

First, I have learned that it’s a good thing to comply with the wishes of others… I got my code for [tag]Google Analytics[/tag] a couple of days ago. *happy*

It’s way cool, displays more information about all of you than I could have ever wanted to know. I think the only downside is that it requires a bit of [tag]javascript[/tag] on on each page. Still, it’s really cool and free

I followed the link in the email and entered my code. They generate the javascript and I added it to my page. I sat back and waited to see what it would look like. Sure enough, dear old [tag]Biff[/tag] came along. And I saw something… Something which shocked me to my very core. I hesitate to bring it up here but after that April Fools bullshit I feel little in the way of pity for him.

Biff uses [tag]Internet Explorer[/tag]… It had to be him. My first visitor, coming from his site from down under and the browser is… I, I can’t say it. What type of mind would do something like that? What kind of person, of their own volition, would make a concious decision to do something so unspeakable?

I also noted with some interest that there was a visitor from [tag]Redmond[/tag] with a browser identified as [tag]E1070[/tag]… Ok, time to start looking over my shoulder for an angry geek.

as an aside

yeah, this is what I need. an area for brain farts. great, thanks for coming…

New Computer User

Ok, I guess I’ll do one of those ‘here is what I did this weekend’ entries. Perhaps this will get Roger off my back…

First off, Biff’s little bit of news turned out to be an April Fools joke. I was suspicious but who the hell knows what happens to a person after 18 months in detox. My initial reaction was correct: a) you ain’t getting any and b) your boys can’t swim. My thoughts were mostly with Rachel and the thought of her still being subjected to Biff’s ‘advances’. Moving on…

My weekend can be summed up as such; I spent a small fortune of groceries, did my taxes and managed to bugger up two of my computers. Friday evening I decided to see if I could add a second drive to my Windows machine. Normally this would not a big deal but the box uses a [tag]SATA[/tag] disk and I was trying to add an [tag]ATA[/tag] disk. This did not go well. “Fine, whatever, I don’t really care, let’s just plug the SATA drive back in and wrap this up…” *swap drive and reboot* “Operating system not found” “What the hell?” I should probably mention that I had recently moved all my backups from my backup box to this machine. I was starting to feel SOL…

Needless to say I went off on a fun adventure where I managed to reset my [tag]BIOS[/tag] which conviently cleared my [tag]chipset[/tag] driver. Mental note 1: next time I buy a motherboard, buy one where the help documentation is written by people who speak English as their first language. Saturday morning I went back and attempted to re-install said driver. That went well and had absolutely zero impact on my situation. I was actually ready to add the box to my graveyard of machines I don’t use but I hate to admit defeat in situations such as these. After a few hours of digging around the BIOS, I finally was able to configure it properly. *Reboot* “Ah, all is right in the world again.”

Sunday I finally sat down and addressed my tax situation. I was in no rush as I was pretty sure that I was gonna be paying this year. Looks like I should have done it sooner as I think I have some bucks coming back. I really need to go over it again before I finally do a dance of joy.

Late Sunday, I notice my [tag]PowerBook[/tag] has an odd [tag]IP[/tag] address and I can’t hit my shares. Disreagarding everything that happened on Saturday as an omen of doom, I decided that I would ‘correct’ the situation. This too went rather poorly. Mental note 2: If you start to dick around with your network settings, do it over a wire. I released my address and then was confounded when I couldn’t re-connect to the router. Several hours passed as I worked to solve this fascinating turn of events… Hours later as I was trying to stop thinking about it and fall asleep, it came to me. I got up, plugged a cable in and renewed my address. *idiot* Everything was right in the world. Again…

I apologize for wasting the past 5 minutes of your life…
