I was sitting in my tiny but plush and well-lit apartment bemoaning the fact that I had just lost my job. Again. On the other hand I didn’t have to work under that bitch anymore (plus I got to see her lose it a couple of times) and I was holding a rather large cheque. Meh, whatever… A year on, I’m working away and have few fears of being laid off. I’m not saying it won’t happen, ’cause it could always happen. I’m just saying that I’m not too concerned about it one way or the other.
So most of the company went out to lunch today as one of us was leaving after deciding it was time to get out of BC and go somewhere that you can get a decent salary and afford an apartment which is greater than 450 sf, but I digress… There were about 20 of us there, arriving in groups in maybe 5 minute intervals.
We knew things didn’t look good when people who ordered last, got their food first. Ok, it’s Friday, it’s busy as hell, just be patient. After the first group was finishing up, our food arrived. Of course mine came with a salad after I had asked for fries. “Um yeah, Hi. I ordered fries” “Oh, do you want the salad anyway?” “Not so much” A brief but awkward silence followed. “Ok, I’ll get your fries”
Normally I would have ordered the salad but MiHwa has been making salads for my lunch for the past six weeks and the idea of another one didn’t seem all that exciting. Ten more minutes pass and my fries arrive. Certainly these fries had been prepared yesterday and I don’t even want to know what was going on with the ketchup.
By now almost everyone else was back at the office and we still didn’t have a bill. 10 more minutes to correct her errors and we were on our way. If nothing else, I guess I felt it was blogworthy…
Sad news came from Gary today that Ron Jasper passed away last night from a heart attack. That name will only make sense to the Infoslaves in the crowd. I didn’t know him very well but I sure enjoyed being at any meeting that he was in as he was quite a pistol. Only 42 which is shocking…
