If you use Windows XP Home Edition then you should start saving up for Windows Vista right now. As of 31st December 2006 you will no longer receive Security updates for XP Home Edition.
If you use XP Pro or above you won’t have to upgrade till 31st December 2011. Windows 2000 users wont have to upgrade till 30th June 2010.
That’s nice. 99% of people who buy a PC at a big box retailer get home and find they are using XP Home. Given that the differences between Home and Pro are pretty minimal, it seems odd that there would be a difference in the support policies.

boooo … my original comment got dissed cuz i forgot to type in my email.
anyway, since i don’t feel like typing that rant out again i’ll keep it short and sweet.
this is pure FUD. yes, the site states that, but security fixes will continue to be available for XP home long after mainstream support ends. none of the XP security fixes to date have been version specific (only platform specific). you will continue to see patches released because XP pro will continue to get patches.
also, XP pro mainstream support doesn’t end until late 2008 as it is dependant on the release date of Vista (+ 2 yrs).
I was wonder what was taking you so long…
