A new contender emerges…

…for crown of social organizer, extraordinaire. Janice did an amazing job of organizing Dan’s birthday party. She picked me up in the afternoon and we drove over to the aquarium to get the food. They rolled out a cart that was taller than me which was absolutely bursting with food. I really questioned how it was all going to fit in the car, particularily since I was hoping to also be in said car.

In any event the car was loaded and we were off. Weaving through early evening downtown traffic, while finalizing the party plans on her phone, we made our way towards Burnaby. At several points during our trip I became more concerned about me making it there in one piece… “Screw the cake…”

I had a really good time and it goes without saying that food was really good and so was the company. Got caught up with a number of folks that I hadn’t seen in a while which was great. At one point I became trapped near the kitchen after making a move for a spring roll (Kim, your Mom rocks). That turned out to be a good move as people came to me, perhaps in search of the spring rools. Also, I was near the beer.

When it came to be time for me to leave, I went and got my jacket and started saying my goodbye’s. An hour later I was on my way. I stepped outside into an downpour from hell but I was unphased as I had consulted a transit map and knew exactly what I was doing.

Minutes later it became fairly evident that I had little more than a general idea of where I was and I couldn’t find the bus stop I needed to make it to the train station. “Hmmm…. me thinks I had best head to Hastings and catch a bus”

It took almost an hour to make it home but I caught a good bus (or a good driver) which didn’t make any stops in the downtown eastside. A short walk and another bus found me back in my plush, well-lit apartment. Though I was soaked to the bone and smelling like a wet dog, I was content with my evening.

I never did get any cake…

Contractual Obligation

Damn, my blogging has dropped off again. There are a few reasons, mainly that I picked a cold last week that knocked me on my butt for three days. I’m still dealing with the remnants a week on… Also, Biff’s incessant questioning took up a good portition of my time.

What else? Still having some wireless drop-off so I’m gonna try some Linux firmware and see if that helps. I’ve also picked up a small contract to design website for a friend which will keep me busy for a while. I’m never know what to charge but it’s helps her out and adds another site to my ‘portfolio’.

Lastly, it’s Dan’s b-day today and I’m waiting for Janice to drop by this afternoon so we can load up the car with food. Should be a good time :) A few beers tonight should bring the cold back on with a fury.

Well, this sucked. Par for the course I suppose…

A little good, a little bad

My stupid router is acting funky. Now I’m the first guy who will tell you that wireless is a bit on the flaky side but this is stupid. I lose my signal from time to time. No biggie because, well, it’s wireless.

In an act of complete supidity, I decided to upgrade the firmware last night. I figured that it would be my connection problems. The result? An increase in the problem to the point where my wireless has been shot for almost 24 hours. Yes, that tightened my jaw.

So now I think I have it tweaked and I’m as far away from the router as I can get, just waiting for the signal to drop. The stupid thing should be able to cover my tiny apartment… Yeah, yeah, cordless phones, microwaves and other WAP’s… I’m venting here.

The good news is that we got our release out a day early at work, so Spanky has told us to do a half day at home tomorrow. Very nice given the downpours of the past few days.

Well, it’s been ten minutes and I haven’t dropped my signal. I guess it must be fixed. :|

Mom was right…

… I’m special… How flattering and embarrasing all at the same time.

To think I was happy just to have my bugs be marked as confirmed in Bugzilla…

Now, go and give Flock a try.
