I hope this isn’t a mistake

April 1st, 2005

Ok, ok, here you go. Interview update.

The interview went well. They asked questions and I asked questions. Fairly standard procedure. At least this time I didn’t have a brain dump moments before arriving. I think I could be happy working there. I’m not 100% happy but pretty close.

We talked about money and benefits and while I’m not thrilled with the range they’re thinking about, it’s acceptable.

One of the things I’m not happy about is that they couldn’t make me an offer today. They need to wait for some contracts to be signed but I was assured that it was a 90% certainty that I would get an offer next week. I hope I’m not stepping in something here…

The good news is that I like the lead and my former lead is also waiting for an offer so that would be cool. I think it’s good company and I really just want a job.

I hated calling Derek and telling him that I couldn’t take the contract but what could I do? He was great again and hinted that he might have something coming up later on, so I guess if this does suck or falls apart I might still have a shot.

So there you go. You can now return to your lives :)

glad it went well. Also nice to know that you ask questions of your potential employers in interviews, then number of interviews I give where no one asks more than the usual questions (when do I work, how many people work here, blah blah blah), I think it shows genuine interest, and that you’ve actually thought about the job and the company. I think the best question I ever got was:

Q: If there were going to be layoffs at the company, what signs would management give to let people know that it was coming?
A: ummm…probably your manager staring at you blankly, like this, as if he’s trying to think of a witty answer for a stupid question
