Day one…

Ah, the joys of employment, even if it’s a contract… Today was the first day at Schemasoft and it went well. Many thanks to Spanky and Walter for the referral; I’ve never gotten a job with only a brief phone interview.
They weren’t too prepared for me and the entire day was spent trying to get stuff set up which I guess was ok. The application is much more complex than I’d imagined it seems that no one really knew much about it.
All the other testers are busy working on an application for Apple, uh, I mean an alternative operating system provider… Actually they could tell me that it was for Apple but that’s all, so I’m pretty much on my own with this one.
The offices are really nice! Yaletown warehouse but renovated so that liquids don’t seep through the ceiling like another place it know. In any event, I’m in for now. They don’t need anyone full time but if I do a good job and they turf the co-ops…
Holy damn heatwaves! I mean I love the heat and all but my apartment is like 27c and I’m five minutes from the beach! I can only imagine what my Burnaby apartment would be like on a day like this.
In related news, it would seem that Andrea has burnt her face off. That’s a shame… She was such a pretty girl. I’m sure she’s strong enough to adapt to a life of pointing and staring.

Wow, congrats man! … and Yaletown to boot!
Say ‘hi’ to Lisa and Patrick Colgan if they are both still there.
I had an interview there and was given an offer but BlastRadius had come back with a better offer.
Good on ya Mark!
Yes, heat…our burnaby apt is very hot, but Kate and I got an evaporative cooler (aka “swamp cooler”). About half the price of an a/c unit, and uses way less power, but cools dramatically. It uses water evaporation and a fan to cool – just simple physics man! Pretty quiet as well (well, quieter than an a/c). Only drawbacks are that it only cools about 150 sf (our bedroom), and cannot be used when the humidity is above 70% (as water doesn’t evaporate into the air very well at that point). We’re happy…and we’re sleeping at night.
Try this fun game… for as long as your contract is, try stealing as many office supplies as possible.
You know, just to see if you can… Then when you get your next contract, try and top the haul from the previous contract…
Biff,
You come up with the greatest ideas. I don’t know why you never got into advertising or something else to maximize your skillset… like, say, plumbing, for example.
Oh yeah, that’s right… you suck at plumbing… but, like your mom always says, “You’ve got the perfect ass to be a plumber.”
Got a job! Congrats!!!
Hope everything goes well. I don’t seem to feel the heat wave too much. It is chill in the windowless office. Don’t like that part at all. When on the road, thanks to the new used car I just bought a couple of month ago – it has a/c.
Wow… Day one is taking a long time… Is there a day two?
